Welcome to Midlothian

Gradient-Line.jpg

As the leader in building materials and solutions, we strive to ensure we live up to the responsibilities that come with our operations. Cement and ultimately, concrete, are a fundamental part of society, creating the foundation and structure of every city and community in the United States, as well as the infrastructure that connects us all.

At the Holcim Midlothian cement plant, our products have supported the growth of the DFW metroplex and contributed to a number of local projects that have helped build Midlothian into the bustling community it is today. Whether you run into one of our 100+ team members volunteering at a community clean-up event or planting trees along Midlothian Parkway, know that we are committed to supporting our community and the environment.

Community

Holcim is the number one building solutions provider in the world and the leading cement producer in the United States. Our values are built on a continuous focus on health and safety in everything we do. The health and safety of our employees, contractors, and the communities in which we live and work are our top priority.

Over the years, we have proudly contributed to our community. Some of those activities include:

  • Creating the Community Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from the city, school district, environmental groups as well as civic leaders and area residents, to improve and promote communication between our operations and those who call Midlothian home

  • Donating 100 acres of land to the City of Midlothian to create Mockingbird Nature Park, including building the boardwalk and pond

  • Planting more than 150 live oak and crape myrtle trees along Midlothian Parkway

  • Funding expansions to the Midlothian Senior Center to meet growing attendance

  • Providing a grant program of approximately $40,000 to Midlothian Independent School District (MISD) and supporting numerous supporting learning activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)

  • Donating lifesaving equipment to the City of Midlothian Police and anti-venom kits for the local K9 Unit

  • Providing cement for the monument at the Midlothian Conference Center

  • Volunteering countless hours to support local initiatives, including the Midlothian Cemetery spring cleanup; Mockingbird Nature Park boardwalk; Manna House food pantry expansion; Senior Citizen Pantry parking lot repair and food donations, and trash pickup along Midlothian Parkway

Sustainability

Sustainability

Over the last 20 years, the Midlothian plant has invested more than $90 million in pollution control technologies. In the last few years, Holcim has spent more than $28 million to install pollution control technologies to reduce volatile organic compounds, including the first-ever voluntary installation of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) in a US cement plant. In all, with both kilns utilizing Best Available Control Technologies (BACT) for particulate matter (PM), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and total hydrocarbons (THC), the Holcim Midlothian plant is one of the best-controlled cement kilns in the world. In addition to the extensive emission controls, the Holcim plant is also equipped with state-of-the-art continuous monitoring devices to constantly measure emissions.

Today, we proudly offer OneCem® – a durable, high-performance concrete that lowers the carbon footprint – to help customers meet sustainable construction goals and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

Putting Safety First

Gradient-Line.jpg

The health and safety of our employees, contractors and those who visit our Midlothian site is a core value. Safe practices and behaviors are constantly emphasized to achieve a goal of zero harm. To support our safety mindset, we continually monitor our practices and safety events to ensure we are innovative and effective in keeping everyone safe.

Economic Impact

Gradient-Line.jpg

Holcim manufactures cement primarily through the use of limestone and other materials mined from the earth, which are finely ground, heated and blended with minerals and additives. Cement is the main ingredient in concrete, which is the second most-utilized material on earth next to water. Concrete connects us, shelters us, provides safe drinking water, and is truly a part of our every day as a part of the critical infrastructure of our nation. Locally, the plant has contributed to projects at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Perot Science Museum, the Margaret Hill Bridge, and the SH 360 expansion. The manufacturing of cement supports the continued local and regional economic growth.

Today, the Midlothian plant employs a workforce of well over 100 men and women who live in Midlothian and the surrounding communities. The plant produces OneCem® Portland limestone cement (PLC) to markets in Texas and Louisiana. It is designed to produce more than two million metric tons of cement per year using two production lines with four-stage preheater pre calciner kiln systems.

About Us

Gradient-Line.jpg

The Midlothian cement plant began as the BoxCrow Cement Company with the construction of a modern and efficient cement plant in 1986. The plant was originally built to allow for an eventual doubling of its size and is situated on more than 2,400 acres.

At Holcim, we proudly produce quality cement that is integral to the Texas economy and infrastructure. Our process meets all applicable state and federal environmental regulations and recently, as part of a global effort to adopt more sustainable products, the Midlothian facility became the first cement plant in the country to fully convert to environmentally conscious low-carbon Portland limestone cement (PLC).
